Why Work with a Pediatric Dietitian?

Dietitian Nutritionists for Kids

Dietitians are the food and nutrition experts. Our goal is to equip parents with the skills and confidence to feed their families.

A pediatric dietitian can help to assess if a child is getting adequate nutrition to meet their growing needs. First, we closely assess the foods and nutrient intake. After this assessment, our dietitian helps parents and caregivers troubleshoot any feeding issues and can contact the child’s physician for any referral recommendations to aid in resolving those feeding issues. In addition to monitoring height and weight, a dietitian can also complete a physical exam including assessing body temperature, fat, muscle, extremity measurements, etc.

Concerns a pediatric dietitian can help with:

  • Feeding difficulties and disorders
  • Weight concerns
  • Failure to thrive
  • Picky eating
  • Food allergies
  • Undernutrition
  • Establishing principles such as All Foods Fit and Health at Every Size
  • Fostering positive body image
  • Division of Responsibility in feeding

Our approach to nutrition is to promote an environment where all foods fit and help kids learn to eat any food without pressure or guilt. We work with families to learn to be responsive in feeding, help children gain eating competence and foster a healthy, positive relationship with food.
