Insurance may or may not cover seeing a dietitian. The best way to find out is to call the benefits number on the back of your insurance card and ask about coverage for seeing a dietitian. If they ask for CPT codes, provide 97802 and 97803. Our most commonly used diagnosis code is Z71.3.
We are required to charge you our usual and customary rate for dietitian service with insurance coverage when providing a superbill, which is a higher rate than our self pay price cost.
We will always attempt to bill your insurance if our dietitian service provider is in network with your insurance.
If your provider is not in network with your insurance or if your insurance denies your claim, you will be responsible for the cost of your dietitian appointment. You will be sent an invoice by email that can be paid through our client platform. If the invoice is not paid or Huntsville Nutrition Collective is not contacted within five days of the date that the invoice is sent, the card on file will be charged. Copayments will also be sent to the client via email invoice.
Contact your insurance company to confirm the provider is in network and for benefit and copay specifics. Insurance policies and coverage plans are always changing, and the responsibility of verification of in network services are on those seeking dietitian services.
We DO NOT verify benefits on behalf of our clients. A quotation of benefits is never a guarantee of coverage.

Currently, all of our dietitian service providers are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), United Health Care (UHC), Cigna, Aetna and are Tricare Certified Providers. All other insurance carriers have told us their network is closed to dietitians at this time. We periodically check with other carriers to attempt network status.
Tricare: We are Tricare Certified Providers. This allows us to submit claims to Tricare East. We require a referral entered into Tricare to see you.
Medicare: Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers medical nutrition therapy services if you have diabetes or kidney disease, or you’ve had a kidney transplant in the last 36 months, and your doctor refers you for services. We are not in network with Medicare at this time. If you have medicare insurance coverage and would like to seek our dietitian services, it will not be covered.
Medicaid: Alabama Medicaid does not enroll dietitians. Seeing a dietitian is not covered by Medicaid in Alabama.
BCBS: Blue Cross Alabama policies that start with BEG require a referral entered into BCBS by your referring provider with the correct dietitian listed.
